Course Title

Advanced Methods of Demographic Analysis

Description

Advanced Methods of Demographic Analysis - This course addresses major intermediate and advanced level methods for demographic estimation and analysis. Topics include population projections, stable populations, age structure analysis, age variation models of demographic behavior, the Lexis contour map, multiple-decrement and multi-state life tables, event history analysis, decomposition analysis, period-cohort relations, and indirect estimation techniques. Many of the methods we use in demographic analysis are not usually taught in statistics courses or in methodology courses in various social science disciplines. With the basic demographic methods taught in DCP 70200 as a foundation, this course prepares students to analyze individual-level and aggregate-level demographic data from censuses, vital registration systems, and surveys.
