Course Title

Psychology of Work and Family: An Introduction

Description

This course will introduce students to issues surrounding the intersection of work and family life from a psychological perspective. The course will examine the main theories that guide research in this area, provide an overview of key empirical research studies, and review common methodologies employed in the discipline. Central topics include the effects of work-family conflict (e.g., stress) and work-family enrichment (e.g, skill development) on the individual. In addition, the course will cover organizational polices that are designed to help employees manage work and family responsibilities and reduce negative employee outcomes. Thus, the course is designed to expose students to theory, empirical research, and practical applications from the lens of psychology (i.e., a focus on the individual).
