Description
Constraint satisfaction is a major paradigm in artificial intelligence systems. A constraint is a partial description of a solution to a problem. A constraint typically describes a restriction that people impose upon a system, or a regularity that has been observed in the natural world. A broad range of challenging problems can be cast as constraint satisfaction problems, including real-world problems in diagnosis, scheduling, vision, and language comprehension, as well as spatial and temporal reasoning.
