Description
This course introduces the basic concepts of data management and statistical computing, both increasingly used in the social sciences. The emphasis is on the practical application of data acquisition, quantitative reasoning, data management, and visualization. The goal is to provide students pragmatic tools for operationalizing research concepts in the form of measurable quantitative data while preparing that datafor quantitative analysis. Topics covered include statistical computing for the management of data, data acquisition, API and web-scraping, data visualization, and data analysis. Assignments are based on real-world data and problems in a wide range of fields in the social sciences.
