Description
This course will explore the diverse ways in which people remembered the past in the medieval and early modern period. While the revolutions at the end of the eighteenth century profoundly altered the ways in which history was viewed and conceived, as many scholars have argued, we will use case studies and engage in theoretical literature in order to explore continuities as well as deep ruptures in how all levels of society perceived, remembered, misremembered, and purposefully forgot the past.
