This course examines the role of the media, particularly mass media technologies like radio, newspapers, television, documentary film, photography and the Internet in shaping politics and the public sphere in Latin America. The course takes a comparative, transnational, historical and theoretical perspective, exploring both the possibilities and limits in mass media technologies for the emergence of“counter-publics” and the expression of alternative or divergent points of view.
