This course explores voluntary and involuntary migration to and from the Middle East and the evolving political and legal orders that regulated mobility. Topics include pilgrimage, slavery, forced population transfer and genocide, as well as Middle Eastern migrations and diasporas in Europe and the Americas. The course also considers the social and political traumas and dislocations of displacement, and the local and global connections that people forged over time and space.
