A broad examination of public history approaches to preserving, researching, interpreting and presenting history through reading case studies and theoretical essays. By considering how theory plays out in practice and in a variety of formats and arenas in which historians engage with historical sites, objects, and publics, the class will cover issues including collective memory, inclusivity and authority, and the relationship between public and academic scholarship.
