Introduction to Doctoral Studies in English

This course takes up questions both practical and theoretical about what it means to do scholarship in the discipline of English. The course follows four main lines of inquiry, examining 1) the historical, institutional context of the discipline, 2) archival and bibliographical work, 3) concepts of textuality, and 4) theoretical approaches. Required of all first-year students.
