Description

The Seminar in Interdisciplinary Studies is required for all MALSstudents. Students will consider a range of disciplinary andinterdisciplinary approaches to academic study. Students areexpected to take this class in their first or second semester in theprogram. This course presents interdisciplinary method as a tool for academicstudy. As a topics class, each faculty who teaches the course will choose a subject of study related to their own research and design a syllabus that exploresthat topic through a range of disciplinary and interdisciplinary lenses. The class is designed to help students understand both disciplinary and interdisciplinary research, academic writing, and methodology. Students will write frequently inthis class and hone their written, oral, and analytic skills. It is also designed to support students as they develop their own disciplinary and interdisciplinaryresearch strategies. It will encourage them to begin thinking about their culminating thesis or capstone projects. One or more visiting faculty may be invitedto speak about their research, writing, and methodology.
