Description
This course will provide an overview of major methodological approaches in the study of race and ethnicity. It covers both quantitative and qualitative methods, including research methods in the humanities (e.g., archival methods, oral history, auto/biography, visual methodologies, discourse analysis) and in the social sciences (e.g., ethnography, interviews, surveys, geographic information systems, and quantitative analysis of existing data). The goal is to help is to help students transition from consumers to producers of knowledge. The class will give students the analytical tools they need to evaluate research in this area and will prepare them to undertake their own original research projects.
