THE PROGRAM
The Graduate Center’s BRES program offers a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) and a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in Black, Race, and Ethnic Studies.
The Ph.D. in Black, Race and Ethnic Studies is a discipline-plus Ph.D. degree program. BRES Ph.D. students will be fully trained in a traditional discipline of their choice while also gaining intellectual exposure in the multidisciplinary training in BRES.
The M.A. in Black, Race, and Ethnic Studies will prepare students for professional positions in their chosen field of employment or further graduate study. The M.A. program will serve students seeking advanced knowledge and professional training in this field from various backgrounds, including education, social work, community development, public health, urban planning, criminal justice, medicine, and law.
